I am proud of how the class responded with our Ch 1-3 Spiral Review this week. They worked hard to follow along and copy the correct work for each problem along the way in class. It is a valuable skill to follow along and correct mistakes as they are reviewed. We are making progress, slowly! :) I know it was tedious for some of them, but it will be helpful in the end.

9/8/16 So far this week we have reviewed our syllabus and began our notebooks. Students have homework on p8 today. They should be bringing books home and leaving them there. We may finish the work in class, but I will always suggest they write homework in their planners and mark it off if it is finished so they know and you know they have completed it. We are beginning with algebra vocabulary. They will work from a packet in class and the book at home. All homework can be done on the back of the packet pages for that section. Today's homework was from section 1.1 so they should have the homework from p8 on the back of the packet page completed by tomorrow am. :) I have asked that you review the syllabus and return it by tomorrow for a treat! They can also decorate a notebook and show me their planners for a treat! Have a great night. PS. Use the book for extra help. Each section has explanation.
9/6/16 Welcome Back to Calvary Christian Schools! I will have the privilege of teaching 7th and 8th grade math again this year! I am looking forward to continuing where we left off and exploring new ideas with you all! Our schedule looks a little different this year, so have a good look and let me know if you have questions. Welcome Back! For a couple of weeks all of 6th-8th grades will work on the Foundations of Geometry. This will be a good spiral review for 7th and 8th, while there may be new concepts for 6th grade. Then each grade will have its own level of solving for perimeter, area, volume and surface area. These basics of geometry will come up in standardized assessments throughout their educational careers and we want to provide them with the vocabulary to attack geometry questions with confidence. We will be using mathantics.com for some video lessons and then some small packets I put together for independent practice. Feel free to check out the website. I appreciate this teacher's thorough nature of teaching, along with his graphics and attention grabbing examples!

Well, we actually did not get to celebrate it yet, because I was out for a family funeral, but I promised the students we would make up this day with some activities and pie in a few weeks when we get going into 4th quarter! Wow! I can't believe it is already here, but it is and this next few days is crunch time for turning in missing assignments. If your child has been ill or missed an assignment, I will take them up until Monday for getting my grades entered for 3rd quarter. If you see an incomplete grade, it means your child is still working on make-ups. We have had a rough few weeks with illness. I hope you enjoy your long weekend! See you all Monday! We will have our ACSI team in the building Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Welcome them if you see them! :)

*There are very few grades so far (this can affect a grade at the beginning of a quarter) and a few students need to work on redoing sections in their packets or correcting their tests to gain some understanding and regain some points. We are reviewing at school, but looking again at the website may help as well.
*Please emphasize to your child the importance of showing all work possible, even if a separate sheet of paper is necessary. Many did not do this on the test review and it resulted in a loss of points. When students circle an answer with no work shown, I can't know if they are ready for a test. In our class, we need to be able to analyze and correct mistakes to gain mastery and that is not possible without showing work. Thank you for your support!
11/23-24 Happy Thanksgiving! Most people completed the test and this week we will begin to look at chapter 3 and graphing.
No Homework! Enjoy your family and make sure to tell them all how thankful you are for them! Also, give thanks to the Lord, for He is Good!
11/16-11/20 This week we will finish chapter 2 and review for a test on Thursday. Please use the website go.hrw.com/gopages/ma-al.html to review. Choose middle school, Holt course 3, 2007Each section has a video and practice problems. You can also use the book to review.

11/2-11-5 Happy last week of the quarter! We will wrap up any re-do assessments this week and make sure all missing assignments are completed by Thursday. :) We are still reviewing rational numbers and we will move into using them to solve equations soon. This is a step-up from last year when we only used integers to solve equations. These 7th graders are growing up and they have matured in their math abilities! It is exciting to see and experience this growth with them! :)
Monday: Section 2-4 in packet 1-4, 17-20-Remember those sign rules! Tuesday: Section 2-4 evens to review multiplication of rational numbers again. Wednesday: Section 2-5 1-12 to review division of fractions. Thursday: None-Have a great three day weekend!
10/26-10/30 This week we will dive into more rational numbers by comparing, adding and subtracting and multiplying fractions. Please have your child read over the sections 2.2-2.4 throughout the week and even go over the examples with them if you can. Common denominators can be tricky, but when you learn a process and do it each time, it is easier. They will get good notes in their notebooks for use at school, but the book also has all the examples they will need. :)
Homework:

10/19-10/23 This week, we will wrap up Chapter 1 and begin Chapter 2 on Rational Numbers. Encourage your child to read the sections we are on at home in the book and really make sure he/she understands the examples. If he/she comes prepared to class with questions and is engaged in the concepts ahead of time, less remedial work will be needed. Some of your children are doing that and are taking advantage of the extension work provided so they can take the concepts to an application level. That is our always our final goal in math class. :)
