This will be the slowest chapter of our year and will be one of the most important going forward for Algebra II. Encourage memorization of equations and looking over notes and videos on line for better understanding. Keeping up on homework is critical for the layered learning of this chapter. New information will build on past information quickly. Linear equations is where real life meets math. How many tickets can you buy for a certain amount of money? How much water is in a pool after a certain amount of time? How can we mix different amounts of nuts to get a certain cost for the bag? Have a great long weekend!

So far this week we have reviewed our syllabus and began our notebooks. Students have homework on p9 today. They should be bringing books home and leaving them there. We may finish the work in class, but I will always suggest they write homework in their planners and mark it off if it is finished so they know and you know they have completed it. We are beginning with algebra vocabulary. They will work from a packet in class and the book at home. All homework can be done on the back of the packet pages for that section. Today's homework was from section 1.1 so they should have the homework from p9 on the back of the packet page for 1.1 completed by tomorrow am. :) I have asked that they and you review the syllabus and return it by tomorrow for a treat! They can also decorate a notebook and show me their planners for a treat! Have a great night.
9/6/16
Welcome Back to Calvary Christian Schools! I will have the privilege of teaching 7th and 8th grade math again this year! I am looking forward to continuing where we left off and exploring new ideas with you all! Our schedule looks a little different this year, so have a good look and let me know if you have questions. One day will be a block day and you will have two hours of math and one day you will not have math. I have some unique plans for those two-a-days! See you soon!
5/23-5/27
This week we will be reviewing for the Final which is Thursday and Friday. It will only cover chapters 5 and 7 along with chapter 8 for extra credit. The students have a quiz on 7-5 through 7-8 on Wednesday. It is part of our review. :) The quiz will be graded and returned by the end of the day so they can see what they still need to work on for the final. Anyone who does not finish by Friday may complete it on Tuesday. We will be covering some factoring tomorrow which is the extra credit. Mr. Payton will review this concept at the end of next year, but I wanted them to have an intro this year. It takes a while to soak in. :)
Monday: Please complete pp. 85 and 126 in review packet. Please note that p 126 has some negative signs that did not show up well on the copies. Anytime there is extra space next to a base and before the exponent, it was meant to be negative. We will look at it together tomorrow, but I just wanted you to be aware in case the answers don't seem correct to you.
Tuesday: Complete pp 87-88 and 127-128 for review. That sound like a lot, but it is only 38 questions and this is a final exam prep. :) Dig in. We will review these on Wednesday and if you have practiced, you will be better off with the review in class.

Then each grade will have its own level of solving for perimeter, area, volume and surface area. These basics of geometry will come up in standardized assessments throughout their educational careers and we want to provide them with the vocabulary to attack geometry questions with confidence. We will be using mathantics.com for some video lessons and then some small packets I put together for independent practice. Feel free to check out the website. Happy Pi Day to all! Well, we actually did not get to celebrate it yet, because I was out for a family funeral, but I promised the students we would make up this day with some activities and pie in a few weeks when we get going into 4th quarter! Wow! I can't believe it is already here, but it is and this next few days is crunch time for turning in missing assignments. If your child has been ill or missed an assignment, I will take them up until Monday for getting my grades entered for 3rd quarter. If you see an incomplete grade, it means your child is still working on make-ups. We have had a rough few weeks with illness. I hope you enjoy your long weekend! See you all Monday! We will have our ACSI team in the building Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Welcome them if you see them! :)

Welcome Back! For a couple of weeks all of 6th-8th grades will work on the Foundations of Geometry. This will be a good spiral review for 7th and 8th, while there may be new concepts for 6th grade. I appreciate this teacher's thorough nature of teaching, along with his graphics and attention grabbing examples!

*There are very few grades so far (this can affect a grade at the beginning of a quarter) and a few students need to work on finishing work to gain some understanding and regain some points. We are reviewing at school, but looking at the website may help as well.
*Please emphasize to your child the importance of showing all work possible, even if a separate sheet of paper is necessary. In our class, we need to be able to analyze and correct mistakes to gain mastery and that is not possible without showing work. Thank you for your support!
